Condominium, Born Bad, the Sweet Nothings - May 3, 2008

Minneapolis is still a punk mecca. The only thing is that most punks don't go to shows... ever? There is a great scene developing though. It's small but yielding great bands like QUESTION, THE AGENDA and now CONDOMINIUM. Winnipeg was fortunate enough to have CONDOMINIUM come up and play UNDER PRESSURE's US tour sendoff show on May 3rd at Ragpickers. Ragpickers, along with the Rocker (both located in Winnipeg's historic Exchange District) has to be my favorite all-ages venue. That's kind of a redundant statement to make because a good all-ages show will always win over any bar show in my book. Anyhow, the bands were great and I hope this Winnipeg/Minneapolis exchange will continue.

American Flamewhip - May 2, 2008

Ozzies is an awful bar. It's caught in a time warp and seems to attract plenty of old, tired scummy subhumans. AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP were the only band I could get into that night. Hanging with my friends Angela and Trish also helped make the subterranean experience tolerable. Unfortunately, AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP played far too long (apparently they won't be playing out again for a long time and I guess this was reason for them to play every song they knew). The crowd continued to thin and as the last note rang out and I turned to make a hasty exit, I realized that the few familiar faces had disappeared. Panic set in. I don't ever want to return to that place again unless I have someone willing to implement the buddy system with me. Still, AMERICAN FLAMEWHIP are hot shit.

Sorry for the lack of updates...

Well, I suppose I've been pretty good at getting out to shows and snapping photos but I'm way behind in my record reviews. I'll be on tour for 2 1/2 weeks as of tomorrow. I'll try to find the time to catch up on my posting once I get back.

So... Upcoming: completion of the Under Pressure 2007 US tour journal (I'm finding it hard to motivate myself because I'm no longer all that pleased with my photographs), various record reviews, a catch-up on Radio State podcasts, photos from the recent American Flamewhip and Condominium shows that went down in Winnipeg (May 2nd and 3rd, respectively)... and once I get at least some of that done, I'll get started on the 2008 tour journal.
